In nonya ware, one of the most ubiquitous decorative devices is the medallion, and the most popular motif occupying it, that of a phoenix with a flourishing spray of peonies. The medallion has been refined to its most voluptuous, and lends its form to this pewter valet tray, with its ogival 24K gilded rim. Its sprightly phoenix and lush peonies are an amalgamation of many examples.
